A progressive firm

Our firm is a team which includes approximately ninety qualified and motivated individuals, working either as lawyers, paralegals or as members of our administrative staff. Law students also complete our personnel and help contribute to its growth. In addition, our firm has made a commitment with respect to implementing technological advances thus facilitating the access to information and ensuring that we are at the forefront of recent jurisprudence and laws.

Many of our clients are institutions: regional and local municipalities, public sector establishments and governing bodies, C.E.G.E.P.s and school boards, banks and other financial institutions. We also serve insurance companies, small and large corporations, professionals and manufacturers, both in and outside of our region. Our lawyers deal with clients and represent them throughout the Province of Quebec, as well as in the rest of Canada.

We also serve private citizens from different walks of life. We advise and represent many individuals in personal matters concerning wills and estates, family and tax matters, liability and general business matters. Over the years, our firm has grown with its clients and opened offices in Blainville, Montreal (Town of Mount-Royal) and Ste-Agathe, while maintaining its main office in St-Jérôme.

Since 1937

The law firm which has become Prévost Fortin D'Aoust was founded in 1937. At that time, Joseph Fortier left his duties as prothonotary for the Judicial District of Terrebonne to begin his own private practice.

Fortier was part of the elite of his time. In addition to his legal acumen, he was known to be well read and knowledgeable. His passion for music led him to direct the town choir, and in 1924 he gained a certain notoriety by leading a musical tribute to Curé Labelle, a historic pioneer in the development of the Laurentians.

A respected professional, Fortier attracted the townspeoples' trust. They relied on his advice and services, as the saying went, "for all matters of Law". Fortier devoted his entire life to a proud tradition of trust and integrity. Forever the consummate lawyer, Fortier was behind his desk at the office a few hours a week even in the mid-1960's...even though he was well past 90 years of age at the time!

This reputation of flawless integrity was shared by Fortier’s successors. Four of his followers were appointed to the bench of the Superior Court : the late Honourable Guy Mathieu, in 1969; the Honourable André Forget, in 1982; the Honourable André Rochon, in 1994 (the two latter were then respectively nominated in 1996 and in 2002 at the Québec Court of Appeal, highest judicial court of the Province), the Honourable Claude Auclair in 2004 and the Honourable Stéphane Sansfaçon in 2011.

These four nominations are the object of our firm’s great pride.

Our lawyers are thus extending a sixty-five year old tradition of excellence. The firm's growth through the years reflects our success both in offering services of uncompromising quality and in keeping abreast of the state the most recent developments in the practice of law.
