Act to bolster tobacco control: new rules in effect on November 26
On November 26, new rules of the Act to bolster tobacco control came into effect. It is now illegal for adults to purchase tobacco products for minors. Also, smoking is prohibited within a nine-metre radius of any door, air vent or window communicating with a public space, including a workplace (for further details, see our September 2016 article entitled Act to bolster tobacco control: Are you up to date?). The other changes pertain to tobacco product packaging and prevent manufacturers and distributors from offering rebates related to the sale of tobacco products to retailers.
